At 590 feet (180 metres) in length, the super-yacht Azzam now lays claim to being the largest in the world. Surpassing the previous record holder Eclipse, owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, by 57 feet.
Manufactured by the German shipbuilders Lürssen, Azzam (costing $605 million) was let to water in October 2013 after 3 years of construction.
The specifications of the yacht are rather impressive:
Length | 590 feet (180 metres)
Speed | 32 knots (37 mph | 59 km/h)
Propulsion | 2 gas turbines & 2 diesel engines = 94000 horse powers
Estimated annual running cost | $60 million
While Lürssen declined to name the owner of Azzam, there are claims that Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia commissioned the construction. Besides ownership, there is also very little known about the yacht’s interior and extra features besides the obvious helipad in the published images.
